Birthday Card for Princess Kathleen (May 2014)

I first met Princess Kathleen on the Internet and in person in San Diego in the mid 2000's when she was about 45 years old and I was about 50 years old. She had just divorced her husband named Jeff and told me that she was a survivor of domestic violence. She was building a website called San Diego Domestic Violence (sandiegodomesticviolence.com) to help other survivors and asked me to help her with this site. An archive of this site can still be seen at archive.org.

She moved to Colorado in 2007 and I continued to talk to her on the phone on a regular basis. Then she returned to San Diego around the end of that year and did not have a job so I started supporting her. I saw John Smith with her a few times but she said that he was not her boyfriend.

Between the years 2005 and 2008 she was assaulted and hospitalized in a serious condition at least twice and told me that her ex-husband Jeff was the one assaulting her. She said that he was able to do this because he knew where she lived so I thought that I could help her by letting her move in with me. She also told me that her two youngest sons had been taken away from her by corrupt social workers and she wanted me to help her get them back.

I found her to be very attractive when she did not have a face injury. On February 29, 2008 she came to see me and took me to sit on the grass next to the tennis court in front of my apartment complex. Then she proposed to me with a ring she had bought and told me that according to her Irish tradition, a woman is allowed to propose to a man on a Leap Day which is also known as Bachelor's Day in Ireland. We went to a court house in San Diego to get married on April 1, 2008 and had a ceremony at Rose Creek Cottage on the same day.

She told me that John Smith wanted to rejoin the army and go to serve in Iraq. She also told me that he wanted her to marry me and that he was going to be my best man.

She wanted a fairytale wedding so we had one at Paradise Point in Mission Bay, San Diego on June 14, 2008. She had rented an officer uniform for me without telling me in advance so I had no choice but to wear it even though I had never been an officer. I would find out later that she had told her friends that I was a prince so that she had become a princess by marrying me.

She went to Disneyland a few days after the wedding but I was unable to go because I had two diabetic cats that had to be monitored and given insulin several times a day. She told me that she had to go because she could not cancel a hotel reservation she had made for her family. I would find out several months later that she had gone there with John Smith and his father and that she and John Smith had several pictures taken together while wearing T-shirts labeled "Bride" and "Groom" as if they were on a honeymoon.

Princess was admitted to Pomerado Hospital in August 2008 and the doctors thought that she had suffered a stroke. Although she was fine after a few weeks, she would be admitted to other hospitals for similar problems many more times over the years.

I got one of my brothers in Thailand to buy a house at 2611 Hidden Valley Road in La Jolla in October 2008 but continued to stay in my apartment because this house had been rented out and the renters were not ready to move.

By the end of 2008 Princess still would not move in with me unless I moved into a larger place. I suspected that she wanted to have a room for John Smith to move in with us and thought about getting an annulment but was assured by her daughter Melissa and John Smith's father that she loved me. Princess also took me to counseling and told the counselor to tell me that John Smith was not her boyfriend.

Princess was still living at her place in Santee in East County San Diego at the beginning of January 2009. She was assaulted again on January 6, 2009 and taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Downtown San Diego in critical condition. Detective Carmen Martinez of San Diego County Sheriff Department called me and said that John Smith was the one who had assaulted her. I was also told that it was John Smith and not her ex-husband Jeff who had assaulted her the previous times. I did not visit her at the hospital because I was upset that she had been lying to me. John Smith was arrested on January 8, 2009 at a friend's house in El Cajon.

John Smith had caused extensive damage to Princess's apartment and destroyed many of her personal belongings including the engagement ring that I had given her. I took her from the hospital to my place and she stayed with me while her place was being repaired. After she moved back to her place I wanted to get an annulment but John Smith's father persuaded me to stay in the marriage. He referred to her as his daughter and she called him "Pop" because they were very close friends.

Princess went to court a few months later to testify in John Smith's trial. I never went with her but was given a copy of a highly redacted court transcript which included testimonies by deputies from San Diego Sheriff Department.

John Smith was sentenced to 5 years of incarceration with a possibility of an early release for good behavior after 51 months. He was transferred to a prison in Tracy, California. Princess told me that he was found to be psychotic and was on an anti-psychotic medication called Thorazine.

Princess continued to stay at her place in Santee in 2009 and 2010. She had a new boyfriend named Jay and I had a girlfriend named Amber. I moved into the house in La Jolla in May 2010 and broke up with Amber soon afterwards. John Smith's father passed away of natural causes in November 2010 so I helped Princess with the memorial service.

Princess told me that she had broken up with Jay so I let her move in with me. I let her stay in the master bedroom while I kept a large section of the house for myself and my cats. Princess was soon back together with Jay and would have him come to stay in her room from time to time. Princess's daughter Melissa, her girlfriend and her two children also came to stay with us for several months until they found a place to move into.

I was going to get a divorce or an annulment after Princess had a cat declawed but her son Marty Moran was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident in July 2012 and would have to move in with us. Princess and Jay broke up permanently a few months later and Marty moved in with us in January 2013 after spending about 6 months in a hospital. Princess obtained a license to work as a caregiver so that she would get paid by the State of California for taking care of her son.

John Smith was released from prison on April 13, 2013. Princess went to meet him and brought him to the house on the same day despite objections from Marty and me.

Although I could legally have John Smith removed from the house, doing this would probably cause him to go on another rage or rampage and become a danger to everybody else at the house. Since Marty was paralyzed and confined to his bed, he would be unable to defend himself.

John Smith started taking methamphetamine again soon after moving in and we would have more police visits than all of our neighbors on our street combined. Although John Smith and Princess were both abusive and violent people, Princess was usually the one who called 911 when she felt that the situation was becoming dangerous.

MY YELP REVIEW OF SDPD NORTHERN DIVISION

These photos of John Smith walking outside the house on 5 different occasions show that he had no idea what he was doing while under the influence of methamphetamine.

John Smith became more abusive as his addiction worsened. Marty texted me on January 8, 2016 to say that he was fighting with John Smith and was in fear for his life.

Marty finally moved out on June 1, 2016 to go to stay with his best friend's parents in Poway about 20 miles away where he would stay until his death in 2022.

On August 6, 2017, John Smith tried to use a magnet attached to a string to retrieve my keys from a table behind a locked door which separated my living quarters from the rest of the house. He knew that I was in my bedroom less than 20 feet away but did not know that I had a security camera pointing at him. He left a footprint or shoeprint on a window sill outside my door which can still be seen several years later. Had he been able to get these keys he would be able to enter my living quarters or steal my car. Luckily the magnet did not work because the keys were made of non-magnetic materials. I told Princess about this incident but did not call the police because having John Smith arrested and released again would put me in more danger than ever before.

John Smith's friend named Denise Schultz told the police in September 2017 that Princess had assaulted her and named John Smith as a witness to the assault. Princess was arrested on September 26 but was later acquitted after getting John Smith to testify that Denise had made up the story.

John Smith liked to carry a knife and he used it to slash a tire on a truck belonging to a resident named Geoff Medina (Jeff) on two occasions. He was arrested for doing this on October 1, 2017 and taken to the Central Jail in San Diego but was released shortly afterwards because vandalism causing damage less than $400 was considered a misdemeanor. He would do the same thing again in 2018 without having to go to jail.

According to her own text message dated March 17, 2018, Kathleen knew that John Smith was showing signs of mental illnesses and that he had threatened to hurt Geoff.

According to Geoff's text message dated July 11, 2018, Kathleen told him that she had stabbed John Smith in the garage with a knife. Although John Smith had told me about an incident many years earlier involving Kathleen assaulting him with a knife and had filed a police report on that incident, this was the first time a third person had told me about her doing this. I found Geoff's story to be credible since Kathleen had no reason to lie to him and he had no reason to lie to me. Since John Smith was a well-trained war veteran, he probably had no trouble defending himself to prevent a serious injury.

John Smith punched a hole in the wall outside the kitchen in October 2017.

He also used his knife to slash furniture all over the house in April 2018.
